Middle School News – February 2022

News

February has brought all kinds of new learning activities for our middle school students.  Our weekly chapels will continue to focus on the fruits of the Spirit from Galatians 5 while in Bible classes students are learning the differences between truth, reality, and perception.

We will continue to deepen our math skills by learning more about fractions and decimals, probability, or transformations with translation, rotation, and reflection. Some students will be creating scale projects, which are always fun to see.

Meanwhile, the worms have descended upon our 5th-grade students.  There have been some new additions and lots of tunneling.  We’re watching them blend dirt and sand together as they make the soil good for plants to thrive.  It’s fun to watch them work knowing how dependent our ecosystems are to allow life to thrive.

In 6th grade students have been learning about how to distinguish between real and fake news. They have been learning some tools to help to evaluate sites and what type of sites are best for research or reports.  In science, we have been looking at cells.  We have compared the animal cell with the plant cell and the many organelles that help it do its job as a cell.

The 7th and 8th-grade students just finished up looking at some of Andy Warhol and pop art.  Then they were to create their own pop art using similar bright colors and contrasting backgrounds.  They have just started self-portraits online.  In science, they asked to learn more about the eye and optics.  So we are just about finished with that unit with dissecting a cow eye and looking at the amazing way God made eye!
