Primary News – December 2022

News

December was a month full of excitement around the halls of Mount Zion. As students and teachers prepared for our winter break, they got the last bits of learning in for the calendar year.

The Creator and Explorer Crews enjoyed their new hands-on sensory centers, including a nativity center, a candy cane bakery, Jesus’ birthday party, a Christmas tree decorating center, and a Christmas card writing center. Each week, students focus on a specific letter; this month they focused on J, D, and M. They learned all about what God wants for Christmas, Jesus’ birth, and the first Christmas during Bible. This month, they also learned all about shapes by searching for them all over the classroom and how to communicate how they are feeling. The Color Monster unit was so much fun as they sorted pom-poms of different colors that corresponded to an emotion.

Kindergarteners focussed on kindness this month. They learned the verse Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” One way students decided to show kindness was to pick up trash on the playground during recess. It was a wonderful moment to see them choose to be kind and show love to our school.

First grade continued their study of God’s attributes this month. They have really enjoyed this theme so far this year. In language arts, students learned how to read and spell double l, f, s, and x words. They also learned what persuasive writing is and how it is used. First graders even got to try their hand at writing a persuasive piece.

Well done primary! Enjoy your Christmas break and we will see you in the new year.
